**Please note applications have now closed for 2010 Graduate Entry only**

An international student is a not a citizen of Australia or New Zealand and does not have an Australian Permanent Resident visa.

Places Available

Graduate Entry: There are approximately 130 places for international students for the 2010 intake into the MBBS Program.

School Leaver Entry: There are approximately 50 places for international students for the 2010 intake via the School Leaver entry scheme into the MBBS program.

The school operates on a rolling applications system which means that the sooner a complete application is submitted, the sooner it will be assessed, and put forward for approval. Offers will be granted on a 'first come, first serve basis' until the quota of places is reached.

As the number and timing of applications received varies each year, it is difficult to predict when the School of Medicine will reach the quota for each entry scheme into the program for the 2010 intake.

Addition to Places Available

A new partnership between UQ and the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans, Louisiana has developed the 4 year graduate entry Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program for approximately 40 USA citizens and USA permanent residents each year.*

Successful students will undertake the first 2 years of the MBBS program at UQ in Queensland, Australia.  The students will then spend the last 2 years of the MBBS program in New Orleans within the Ochsner Health System, where they will follow the same curriculum, clinical rotations (number, structure and type), and assessment as their counterparts in Queensland. These students will graduate with the current UQ MBBS degree, which is recognized in the U.S. as equivalent to the U.S. MD degree.  Students will be eligible for ECFMG certification, to take the USMLEs, for the NRMP match, and to practice medicine in the U.S.

* This Program collaboration is subject to approval by the Australian Medical Council (AMC). The University of Queensland has submitted to the AMC an application for accreditation of the Program. Until the AMC completes its review of the Program, Queensland will accept students eligible for the Program into Queensland's four year MBBS program in Australia. In the event that the AMC does not timely accredit the Program, students who enroll will be expected to complete their four year medical education at University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia

The MBBS Program

UQ’s School of Medicine is recognised as one of only four world class Schools of Medicine in Australia and is ranked highly both nationally and internationally.

We are Australia’s largest graduate medical program and work with a community of scholars, clinicians and stakeholders to provide award winning medical education in a small case-based and problem based learning groups.

The School of Medicine accepts the highest number of international students than any other Australian medical program. The majority of our students are from Canada but the international cohort is a diverse group from other countries including USA, Singapore,  Malaysia and the UK.

Students are offered complete support throughout the application and offer process and with any information required to assist them in their decision to undertake studies at UQ including program information, accommodation and financial loan processing assistance.
